H5 has retained us to identify and recruit an Assistant Controller – Construction & Development who will play a key role in supporting the company's continued growth and investment in its national portfolio. This opportunity is responsible for overseeing the accounting and financial administration of construction and development projects.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES & COMPETENCIES
  • This role serves as the primary accounting lead for construction activities, ensuring project costs, funding requests, reporting, and vendor obligations are managed accurately and proactively.
  • The Assistant Controller is expected to anticipate upcoming project needs, identify and resolve issues before they impact operations, and provide timely escalation of risks to management.
  • Success in this role requires a proactive approach, strong follow-through, and the ability to identify and address issues before they become project delays, funding obstacles, or reporting deficiencies.
  • This is a hands‑on role that requires both leadership and execution.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Minimum 10+ years of accounting experience.
  • Minimum 5+ years of construction accounting experience.
  • Experience supporting construction, development, real estate, or project-based organizations.
  • Experience with ground-up development, major renovations, tenant improvements, lender-funded projects, and joint venture structures is strongly preferred.
SKILLS
  • Strong understanding of construction accounting, job costing, and project budgeting.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing lender draw requests and joint venture funding.
  • Experience with Yardi and/or MRI preferred.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
