Role OverviewUnder the direction of the Manager, Special Pathogens and in collaboration with the Director, Emergency Management, the Special Pathogens Regional Advisor facilitates regional preparedness efforts by providing advisory guidance, readiness assessments, coordination of exercises, and compliance monitoring related to high consequence infectious disease events. The role supports Regional Emerging Special Pathogen Treatment Centers (RESPTCs) within Cedars‑Sinai’s assigned region by facilitating preparedness assessments and recommendations to advance readiness and grant compliance, and partners with the National Emerging Special Pathogens Training and Education Center (NETEC).
The Advisor collaborates with regional and national partners to advance strategic planning and strengthen systems related to performance improvement, education, outreach, exercise development, and infection prevention and control.
- Develops, coordinates, and evaluates activities to meet grant deliverables and program objectives within the institution, across Region IX, and with national collaborators. Provides institutional preparedness through coordination of trainings and drills, participation in Hospital Command Center activations, and facilitation interagency preparedness activities.
- Engages regional stakeholders in reviewing and revising the Region IX Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) and Other Special Pathogen Transport Plan to maintain alignment with current National Special Pathogen System (NSPS) strategies and to provide regional recommendations and best‑practice guidance to partner facilities.
- Applies best practices from the National Emerging Special Pathogens Training and Education Center (NETEC) Training Academy and uses NETEC hospital and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) assessment tools to conduct comprehensive on‑site and virtual evaluations.
- Identifies strengths and opportunities for improvement at Cedars‑Sinai Medical Center and across healthcare entities in the Region IX and provides practical, actionable recommendations to regional partners and internal leadership to advance readiness for high consequence infectious disease events.
- Assesses regional personal protective equipment (PPE) supply levels and supports rapid deployment of PPE to regional partners when operationally required.
- Coordinates with NETEC to facilitate Special Pathogens Organizational Readiness Assessment (SPORSA) submissions, reviews, and readiness assessments across the HHS region, and supports follow‑up consultations to advance organizational preparedness.
- Leads the coordination and execution of multiagency special pathogen drills and exercises at both the organizational and regional levels and conducts after‑action reviews and develops formal after‑action reports.
- Serves as a point of contact during multiagency special pathogen events—planned or emergent—by coordinating and liaising with city, county, state, regional, and federal agencies involved in special pathogen response including events occurring outside of business hours.
- Maintains training and operational readiness on regional equipment and supplies that support patient isolation, movement, waste management, and diagnostics throughout the region.
