Position: UI Engineer (Unreal Engine 5, AAA European Football)

Refactor Games is a AAA sports video game studio . We are developing the next generation of professional football (soccer) video games using Unreal Engine 5.

We are looking for a highly skilled UI Engineer to bridge the gap between artistic vision and technical implementation. In this role, you will be the architectural backbone of our user interface, working deep within Unreal Engine 5 to build responsive, performant, and visually stunning UI systems.

You are not just a coder; you are a "creative technologist" who understands the best of both worlds. You possess the engineering rigor to build complex C++ back-ends and the artistic eye to ensure the front-end experience feels polished, fluid, and intuitive.

Experience:
  • 3+ years of professional experience with Unreal Engine .
  • 3+ years of professional experience specifically in UI Programming .
What You'll Work On:
  • Architecture & Implementation: Design and implement robust UI systems using C++ ,
    Slate , and UMG .
  • Framework Development: Utilize CommonUI and architectural patterns like MVC (Model-View-Controller) and MVVM (Model-View-View Model) to create scalable and maintainable UI codebases.
  • Cross-Discipline

    Collaboration:

    Work closely with UI Artists, UX Designers, and Gameplay Programmers to iterate on features and ensure the UI enhances the player experience without compromising performance.
  • Optimization: Profile and optimize UI to ensure high frame rates and low memory overhead, specifically for online/multiplayer environments.
  • Visual Polish: Apply your "eye for art" to ensure animations, transitions, and layout responsiveness meet high visual standards, translating mockups into pixel-perfect implementations.

  • A Communicator: You can explain technical constraints to artists and artistic goals to engineers.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
  • Expert-level knowledge of C++ .
  • Deep understanding of Unreal's UI framework:
    Slate and UMG .
  • Hands-on experience with the CommonUI plugin in Unreal Engine.
  • Proven experience implementing UI design patterns such as MVC and MVVM .
  • A track record of working successfully within cross-functional teams (Art, Design, Engineering).
Bonus Points:
  • Multiplayer

    Experience:

    Shipped at least one online game; familiarity with Networked Multiplayer UI , replication, and handling latency in UI updates.
  • (Good to have)
    Tech-Art

    Skills:

    Experience writing materials/shaders for UI or working with particle systems within the UI context.
