Medical Paraprofessional – Birmingham Public Schools

Open as of 7/8/2026 – Full‑time, 10‑month position for the 2026‑27 school year at Seaholm High School.

Provides individualized medical and physical assistance to a student with medical and physical needs, working under the supervision of certified school personnel. The role ensures student safety, access to instruction, and participation in educational and school‑related activities throughout the school day, with a focus on medical monitoring, Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), mobility, safety, and functional academic support in both school and community‑based environments.

• Monitor and support students’ medical needs under the guidance of certified staff.
• Assist with ADLs such as personal hygiene, toileting, and feeding.
• Support student mobility and safety within the school setting and during community activities.
• Provide functional academic support to facilitate student participation in instructional activities.
• Coordinate with teachers and health personnel to implement individualized support plans.

• 60 semester hours of college credit or an associate’s degree preferred; alternatively, meet a rigorous standard of quality demonstrated by a formal state or local academic assessment.
• Knowledge of reading, writing, and mathematics instruction (or readiness for these areas) and ability to assist in these domains.
