Summary
The Academic Support Chair helps design, coordinate, and sustain a focused academic support program to allow students to thrive at Waring, in close partnership with Academic Dean, Student Support Team (SST), Admissions, and faculty. This role prioritizes students with documented learning needs and those experiencing acute academic challenges, and works directly with students, families, and teachers to ensure students have the structure, tools, and guidance for academic success.
The Academic Support Chair reports to the Academic Dean.
- Serve as the primary coordinator of academic support for students with documented learning needs or who are experiencing acute academic challenges, partnering closely with the Academic Dean to refine and maintain effective support structures.
- Review neuropsychological evaluations, IEPs, and other documentation to develop actionable learning profiles to guide classroom practices and promote student success.
- Develop and oversee individualized Student Support Plans for students with significant or time-sensitive academic needs.
- Monitor student progress through regular communication with teachers and advisors, and recommend adjustments or next steps when patterns of concern or growth emerge.
- Coordinate individual and small group academic supports for students, including scheduling and overseeing academic tutors, with priority given to students with documented needs or active plans.
- Serve as a core member of the Student Support Team (SST), contributing academic insight and coordination to collaborative planning for student success.
- Meet regularly with the Academic Dean to review student progress, share observations, and align on interventions and priorities.
- Facilitate teacher briefings on Learning Profiles and/or Student Support Plans, with focus on practical academic strategies and classroom implementation.
- Communicate clearly and consistently with families and faculty regarding academic supports, expectations, and student progress.
- Consult with the Director of Enrollment and Admissions regarding prospective students with documented or suspected learning needs, helping to assess fit and anticipate support structures.
- Provide limited direct academic or executive function support, as time and priorities needs allow, particularly during periods of heightened need.
- Master’s degree in relevant field, with 3-5 years of related experience
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, with the ability to motivate adolescent learners and to collaborate effectively with colleagues
- Ability to manage and prioritize a caseload within scope of this leadership role
- Familiarity with learning management systems, such as Google classroom, preferred
- Participation in annual all-school events
- Attendance at co-curricular aspects of our school program (e.g. All-School Meetings) as agreed upon based on FTE
- Participation in Faculty Meetings and Professional Days, as agreed upon based on FTE

Salary Range: $65, (full-time equivalency) commensurate with experience
