Director of Criminal Justice Graduate Program

The Director of the Criminal Justice (CJ) Graduate Program in the School of Social Sciences, Communication, & Humanities reports to the Associate Dean. The Director is responsible for leading the strategic launch, growth, and daily operations of a newly designed CJ Graduate Program, which features a soft launch in Spring 2027 and full implementation in Fall 2027. This role includes managing curriculum development, supervising full and part-time faculty, overseeing program evaluation/accreditation, and driving student enrollment and retention.

This is an in-person, on-campus position.

Key Responsibilities
  • Directs graduate academic advising, guiding students from admission through progression and successful completion of their degree.
  • Implements a proactive advising model, including onboarding new advisees prior to program entry and conducting regular progress checks.
  • Collaborates with the Associate Dean to identify, support, and coach at-risk students to maximize retention.
  • Maintains high-quality advising standards to ensure timely student progress through coursework and career alignment.
  • Leads the successful implementation and execution of the new CJ graduate program's soft launch (Spring 2027) and full launch (Fall 2027) in coordination with the Associate Dean.
  • Partners closely with the Homeland Security Graduate Program Director to integrate existing HLS concentration courses into the CJ curriculum and provide seamless cross-program pathways for students.
  • Collaborates with the Director of the Cybercrime Forensics Lab to coordinate the cybersecurity concentration, including lab exercises, simulations, and hands-on training.
  • Drives recruitment, enrollment growth, and student retention initiatives to sustain an 80%+ retention and graduation rate.
  • Manages ongoing program assessment, continuous improvement, and accreditation efforts at the course, program, and school levels.
  • Contributes to the College community through service on school-wide and institutional committees.
  • Teaches 2 graduate-level courses per year across the CJ and HLS programs.
  • Demonstrates excellence in teaching through strong student evaluations and the utilization of diverse, effective assessment strategies.
  • Develops cutting-edge course content and materials aligned with current industry trends, program needs, and School standards.
  • Collaborates with the Associate Dean to recruit, hire, train, and evaluate part-time adjunct faculty within the CJ graduate program.
  • Ensures all adjunct faculty align their courses with Canvas LMS standards and School pedagogical benchmarks.
  • Reviews student course evaluations annually with faculty to implement data-driven pedagogical adjustments.
  • Maintains an active track record of scholarship and research in criminal justice or a related field.
  • Represents the College and its graduate programs through the presentation of academic scholarship at national and state conferences, seminars, or through peer-reviewed publications.
  • Be an active participant in the life of the College by attending and supporting major events such as Commencement, Homecoming, and other all-hands-on-deck gatherings. As a member of the leadership team, model a strong commitment to community engagement.
