Role Overview
As a Reliability and Component Qualification Engineer at Axcelis, you will ensure the long‑term dependability and performance of critical subsystems within our ion implantation platforms. This role bridges the gap between design and field performance, focusing on the qualification of complex electromechanical systems including vacuum robots and high‑voltage (HV) power distribution. You will drive reliability through rigorous testing, statistical modeling, and root‑cause failure analysis (RCFA).
Key Responsibilities- Component
Qualification:
Define and execute qualification plans for new semiconductor equipment components, specifically targeting vacuum robotic arms, end‑effectors, and high‑voltage power supplies (high kV/high current). - Reliability Testing:
Design and set up accelerated life tests (ALT) and environmental stress tests (HALT/HASS) to simulate years of field operation in a controlled lab environment. - Vacuum & HV Expertise:
Validate the reliability of robotic movement within high‑vacuum environments and assess the dielectric integrity and thermal management of high‑voltage electronic assemblies. - Failure Analysis:
Lead root‑cause investigations for component failures, utilizing tools like SEM/EDS, X‑ray, and cross‑sectioning to identify physics‑of‑failure mechanisms. - Statistical Modeling:
Apply Weibull analysis and other statistical methods using software like Minitab or Relia Soft to predict MTBF and assess mission risks. - Cross‑Functional
Collaboration:
Partner with Design, Manufacturing, and Field Service teams to implement design‑for‑reliability (DfR) improvements and reduce warranty costs. - Documentation:
Create detailed qualification reports, test procedures, and FMEA documentation to guide engineering decisions.
Skills & Qualifications
- Education:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Reliability Engineering. - Experience:
5+ years of experience in reliability or component engineering, preferably within the semiconductor capital equipment industry. - Technical
Skills:- Hands‑on experience with Vacuum Systems and Robotic Automation.
- Deep understanding of High‑Voltage electronics and safety interlock systems.
- Proficiency in reading electrical schematics and mechanical assembly drawings.
- Familiarity with industry standards (e.g., JEDEC, MIL‑STD, SEMI).
- Tools:
Experience with Minitab, Relia Soft, Python, or MATLAB for data analysis. - Soft Skills:
Strong analytical problem‑solving abilities and communication skills required to present technical findings to diverse stakeholders.
A candidate’s pay within the range will depend on their work location, skills, experience, education, and other factors permitted by law. This role may also be eligible for performance‑based bonuses subject to company policies. The role is eligible for the following benefits subject to company policies: medical, dental, vision, pharmacy, life, accidental death & dismemberment, and disability insurance; employee assistance program;
401(k) retirement plan; 10 days of paid time off per year (some positions are eligible for need‑based leave with no designated number of leave days per year); and 10 paid holidays per year.
