The company is expanding its Somerset, NJ manufacturing floor and seeks a Manufacturing Engineer to sustain and improve system builds, troubleshoot hardware issues, and drive continuous improvement.
OverviewAs a Manufacturing Engineer on the Manufacturing Operations team, you will work on the production floor with assembly technicians, resolving mechanical and electrical issues, leading root‑cause investigations, writing work instructions, and implementing process improvements that make each build more repeatable.
Responsibilities- Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical and electrical hardware issues during assembly, integration, and final test, implementing fixes that hold up in production.
- Lead root‑cause investigations using DFMEA, Fishbone diagrams, and 8D, implementing permanent corrective actions.
- Develop and maintain assembly instructions and training materials that enable technicians to execute builds accurately on the first attempt.
- Execute engineering changes, deviations, and rework directives in production, coordinating implementation with planning and shop floor to avoid schedule disruption.
- Contribute to manufacturing readiness reviews, design reviews, and tool risk assessments, providing production perspective before designs reach the factory floor.
- Partner with Design Engineering, Quality, Field Service, and Supply Chain to close the loop on factory and field issues, ensuring permanent design or process changes.
- Drive continuous improvement in manufacturability, repeatability, and product quality, identifying cost‑reduction, cycle‑time, or defect‑elimination opportunities and measuring results.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years of manufacturing, sustaining, or hardware support engineering experience in low‑volume, high‑complexity, or engineer‑to‑order environments.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex electromechanical hardware on a production floor.
- Experience sustaining production lines for complex electromechanical systems, including assembly, integration, and test of vacuum, gas, thermal, motion, or contamination‑controlled equipment; semiconductor capital equipment experience preferred.
- Capable of reading and interpreting engineering drawings, electrical schematics, 3D models, BOMs, and GD&T to identify discrepancies and communicate issues to Design Engineering.
- Proficient in structured problem‑solving (DFMEA, 8D, Fishbone) with a track record of implementing effective corrective actions.
- Familiarity with ERP systems — SAP preferred — for engineering change processing, deviation management, and material/production data tracking.
- Experience supporting suppliers or contract manufacturers on hardware quality and production issues, including supplier corrective action processes.
- Comfortable working on the production floor with technicians and presenting findings and improvement proposals to plant leadership.
- Skilled at creating clear process documentation (Sequence of Operations, Method Instructions, training materials) to improve build consistency and reduce tribal knowledge.
