Job Title:

Manufacturing Engineer

Job Description

The Manufacturing Engineer supports complex electromechanical production lines by troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues, leading structured root-cause investigations, and implementing permanent corrective actions that improve product quality and build repeatability. This role develops and maintains clear assembly and work instructions, executes engineering changes on active builds, and partners closely with cross-functional teams to ensure designs are manufacturable, issues are resolved at the source, and continuous improvement opportunities are captured and implemented across the factory and in the field.

Responsibilities

+ Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical and electrical hardware issues that arise during assembly, integration, and final test, diagnosing problems on the production floor and implementing fixes that remain robust in ongoing production.

+ Lead root-cause investigations using structured problem-solving methods such as DFMEA, Fishbone diagrams, and 8D, and implement permanent corrective actions that prevent recurrence in future builds and at customer sites.

+ Develop, maintain, and continuously improve assembly instructions, work instructions, and technician training materials so that technicians can build and test equipment accurately the first time.

+ Update process documentation and training materials promptly when engineering changes, lessons learned, or field feedback require revisions.

+ Execute engineering changes, deviations, and rework directives in production, assessing their impact on active builds and coordinating implementation with planning and shop floor personnel to minimize schedule disruption.

+ Contribute to manufacturing readiness reviews, design reviews, and tool risk assessments by providing a strong production perspective before designs reach the factory floor.

+ Partner with Design Engineering, Quality, Field Service, and Supply Chain to close the loop on factory and field issues, ensuring that problems discovered during build or at customer sites lead to permanent design or process changes rather than repeated workarounds.

+ Drive continuous improvement in manufacturability, build repeatability, and product quality by identifying patterns across builds that indicate opportunities for cost reduction, cycle time improvement, or defect elimination, then implementing and validating those improvements.

+ Sustain production lines for complex electromechanical systems, including assembly, integration, and test of equipment involving vacuum environments, gas delivery, thermal management, motion systems, and contamination-controlled hardware.

+ Support suppliers and contract manufacturing partners on hardware quality and production issues, including conducting supplier corrective action processes when required.

+ Use enterprise resource planning (ERP) tools, such as SAP, to process engineering changes, manage deviations, and track material and production data.

+ Collaborate directly with technicians on the production floor to troubleshoot complex electromechanical hardware and provide clear guidance during assembly and test.

+ Present root-cause findings, corrective action plans, and improvement proposals to leadership and cross-functional stakeholders in a clear and structured manner.

Essential Skills

+ Minimum of 3 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, sustaining engineering, or hardware support engineering, preferably in low-volume, high-complexity, or engineer-to-order environments.

+ Experience sustaining production lines for complex electromechanical systems and equipment.

+ Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex electromechanical hardware directly on the production floor.

+ Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, electrical schematics, 3D models, bills of materials (BOMs), and technical documentation.

+ Proficiency with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to identify discrepancies and communicate issues clearly to Design Engineering.

+ Proficiency in structured problem-solving methods, including DFMEA, 8D, Fishbone analysis, or equivalent approaches, with a track record of implementing corrective actions that are effective and durable.

+ Experience transferring, managing, or troubleshooting production lines for complex electromechanical products, ideally complex machines with electromechanical equipment.

+ Comfort working hands-on on the production floor alongside technicians during assembly and test.

+ Ability to communicate technical issues, root causes, and corrective actions clearly to both shop floor personnel and leadership.

+ Strong manufacturing engineering knowledge, including manufacturing processes, electromechanical assembly, and manufacturing equipment.

+ Capability to participate in manufacturing readiness reviews and design reviews with a focus on manufacturability and production risk.
