In the role of Controller, your responsibilities will be to lead all aspects of nonprofit financial
management, including GAAP-compliant reporting, fund accounting, budgeting, audits, and
cash flow across international operations, while providing strategic analysis and decision
support to leadership. Oversee internal controls, external compliance, and a high-performing
finance team to ensure financial integrity and operational excellence.

Financial Management and Reporting (60%)

• Direct all accounting operations including general ledger maintenance, AP/AR, payroll processing (via ADP), and banking relationships
• Ensure compliance with GAAP standards, specifically ASC 958 (Not-for-Profit Entities), across all financial reporting and record-keeping
• Maintain fund accounting systems to track restricted, temporarily restricted, and unrestricted net assets
• Prepare and present accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements to the CFO with analytical commentary, including Statement of Financial Position, Statement of Activities, Statement of Functional Expenses, and Statement of Cash Flows
• Lead monthly close processes, including account reconciliations and variance analysis
• Manage financial operations for multiple international project sites, ensuring adequate cash flow for project completion
• Oversee cash management and develop cash flow forecasting models
• Track and report on donor restrictions, ensuring compliance with grant terms and donor intent

Strategic Planning and Analysis (25%)

• Lead the annual budgeting and planning process in collaboration with department heads
• Develop and monitor P&L projections with detailed variance analysis
• Analyze key financial drivers and operational metrics to identify trends and improvement opportunities
• Provide decision support for strategic business initiatives through financial modeling and scenario analysis

Compliance and Controls (10%)

• Coordinate annual financial audits, serving as primary point of contact for external auditors
• Collaborate with external tax accountants to ensure timely and accurate federal and state tax filings, including Form 990 preparation and review
• Maintain and enhance internal control procedures and documentation
• Develop, implement, and monitor accounting policies and procedures to improve efficiency and ensure compliance

Team Leadership and HR Support (5%)

• Supervise, develop, and mentor accounting staff of 3-4
• Support employee benefits administration and retirement plan coordination with ADP
• Support HR administrative functions including employee contracts and compliance documentation
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional development within the finance team

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• CPA certification preferred
• Minimum 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience with at least 3 years in a supervisory controller role
• Hands-on nonprofit accounting experience preferred
• Demonstrated expertise in GAAP compliance and financial statement preparation, specifically ASC 958 (Not-for-Profit Entities)
• Proven experience managing full-cycle accounting operations including close processes, audits, and tax compliance
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, financial modeling)
• Experience with ERP systems
• Strong understanding of internal controls and audit procedures

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in construction industry or with multi-site/international operations
• Familiarity with Form 990 preparation and nonprofit tax compliance
• Knowledge of Acumatica ERP software system

Location: Beverly, MA (hybrid).

Compensation: $105,000 – $125,000 commensurate with experience.
