SummaryThe main duty of a police matron is to assist in searching and monitoring female prisoners who are held in the holding facility of the Police Station. The matron must be a female, working under the supervision of the Shift Commander. Matrons may also be used during field operations when the commanding officer feels their assistance with females may be necessary.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESIncludes the following; other duties may be assigned:
- A Matron must remain at the Police Station, ready for services so long as a female is detained, lodged or held under arrest.
- Shall care and be in charge of females held under arrest, detained or lodged in the Police Station.
- Shall report to the Shift Commander in charge of the Police Station.
- Will follow all applicable police rules and regulations.
- Will be available when called upon to report to duty.
- Will accompany detained, arrested, or lodged females to the hospital or state/federal holding facility as needed.
- Will attend and successfully pass all mandated training sessions as prescribed by the Police Chief or by statute.

- High School diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations.
- Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Ability to deal effectively with the public and with females who are detained in a professional manner.
- Must live within a reasonable distance from the Beverly Police Station.
- Must be available to work nights, weekends and holidays on an on‑call basis.
