Job Overview

Position: Plumber (Level
2) – Mechanical Engineer

Location: HMP Bullingdon, OX25 (Category B male prison)

Salary: £36,066.96 per annum with an additional 5% basic salary for shift and weekend work.

Contract: Full time – Permanent, 39 hours per week (shift work Monday to Sunday)

The role involves supporting and maintaining the plumbing and mechanical systems within the prison environment, working alongside a multidisciplinary facilities maintenance team.

Responsibilities include:

• Inspection, repair, and maintenance of plumbing, heating, and mechanical equipment.
• Collaborating with electricians, carpenters, painters, cleaners, and administrators to ensure safe and secure operations.
• Adhering to health & safety regulations and contributing to a safe working environment.
• Utilising organisational, time‑management, and people skills to service prisoner, staff, and visitor needs efficiently.

• NVQ Level 2 or equivalent certificate in a mechanical or plumbing discipline.
• Good knowledge of health and safety regulations.
• Excellent organisational, time‑management and interpersonal skills.
• Experience or willingness to work shift schedules and weekends.
