Staff Accountant

We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support core accounting operations for a university in Maine. This contract position with the potential to become permanent is ideal for someone with a solid foundation in bookkeeping and accounting who enjoys accurate financial processing and working collaboratively with others. The role involves managing transaction activity, preparing journal entries, and helping maintain reliable financial records across the institution.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare and enter journal entries to support university-wide accounting activity with a strong focus on accuracy and completeness.
• Record financial transactions in Banner and ensure information is posted correctly to the appropriate accounts.
• Process miscellaneous checks, cash deposits, and wire-related accounting activity in accordance with established procedures.
• Maintain general ledger support by reviewing debits, credits, and daily transaction details for proper classification.
• Assist with routine bookkeeping tasks that contribute to timely and accurate financial reporting.
• Review transaction data for inconsistencies and follow up as needed to help keep records current and organized.
• Collaborate with accounting team members to address day-to-day financial processing needs and shared workload priorities.
• Support additional accounting duties beyond journal entry preparation as assigned by the department.
