Summer School High School English Teacher
The successful candidate will work with students placed in Summer School for credit recovery in the 2025-26 year. The position is 2 hours per day with a 1 hour per day preparation allotment, from June 22 to July 16, Monday‑through‑Thursday each week.
Position PurposeUnder the general supervision of the Summer School Director, facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills by implementing district‑approved curriculum, documenting teaching and student progress, addressing specific educational needs of individual students, and creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment. Provide feedback to students, parents and administration regarding progress, expectations and goals.
Essential Functions- Promote a safe classroom environment conducive to individualized and small group instruction.
- Develop and implement lesson plans and instructional materials, translating them into learning experiences to maximize instructional time.
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning, modifying instruction for individual needs, including students with special needs, and provide individual and small group instruction.
- Instruct students on responsible citizenship principles and other subject matters required by law and the district system.
- Continuously acquire professional knowledge by attending workshops, seminars or conducting research.
- Maintain accurate record‑keeping, grading and reporting of all student activities, achievements and attendance per district procedures and applicable laws.
- Encourage parental involvement and maintain effective communication with students and parents.
- Ensure student conduct conforms with district policies and establish a functional learning atmosphere.
- Coordinate with other elementary staff, evaluate curriculum, and participate in faculty meetings and committees.
- Select and requisition appropriate books, instructional aids and supplies; maintain inventory records.
- Supervise students during out‑of‑classroom activities, including transportation.
- Administer standardized tests in accordance with District testing programs.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or central office administrators.
Required Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, and ability to differentiate instruction based on student learning styles.
- Knowledge of elementary school curriculum and concepts.
- Knowledge of data systems and analysis for action planning.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state education laws.
- Proficiency with computer network systems and software applications.
- Organizational and coordination skills.
- Effective communication with students and parents.
- Ability to engage in self‑evaluation for professional growth.
- Capability to build cooperative relationships with colleagues.
Standard office and school building environments.
Qualifications- State Certification as an English Teacher.
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or related discipline;
Master’s preferred.
