Substitute Teachers

Biddeford and Dayton Schools are seeking substitute teachers for long-term and per diem assignments. Flexible days, 6-7 hours per day, are available. Select the school, grade, or subject you prefer. Request a tour of a school today. Pay rates are $125 per day for non-certified, $140 for retired teachers, and $140 for currently certified teachers subbing for teachers. Long-term subs for a teacher in one assignment for days 31-90, over 90 days is at the entry-level teacher per diem rate.

• Instructs students and facilitates their learning in the absence of the regular teacher.
• Provides classroom instruction to students as outlined in lesson plans.
• Creates a classroom that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
• Maintains a safe and orderly environment.
• Maintains established routine of the school and classroom procedures in which assigned.
• Maintains a professional appearance as an example to students.
• Remains at school the entire school day, unless otherwise instructed to leave by building principal.
• Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Maintains reasonable rules of conduct which encourage self-discipline and responsibility.
• Communicates effectively with parents when needed.
• Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and times designated.

Criminal History Record Check (CHRC) which includes fingerprints on file with the Maine Department of Education.

Education and/or experience:
High school diploma- may serve 10 days in any one teaching assignment, up to 60 days per school year. Two or more years of college- may serve as a substitute for up to 60 days per school year. Certified teacher- may serve as substitute with no time limit in certification area/grade level only. Certified teacher- may serve as a substitute for up to 90 days per school year in certification areas outside of area of specialty.
