FMI's manufacturing facility has been a leading solutions provider of high temperature materials and composites for more than 50 years, serving the Department of Defense and NASA. The focus in Maine is on multidirectional reinforced Carbon/Carbon (C/C) and Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs) that enable high-temperature components such as: thermal protection systems, re-entry vehicle nose tips as well as rocket motor throats and nozzles.
Our materials are being used on ground-breaking space initiatives such as the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle and the heat shield for NASA's Mars 2020 mission, important missile programs, airfoils in commercial and military jet engines, and as lightweight armor for U.S. military ground vehicles.
FMI is seeking an energetic Manufacturing Engineer with a drive for success to add to our Engineering team! As the Manufacturing Engineer
, you will be responsible for the support of current production systems and future improvements in safety, quality, cost, and cycle time. You will also coordinate and direct projects, make detailed plans to accomplish goals and direct the integration of technical activities, such as, process improvements, equipment installation/modification, and material system development. To be a successful Manufacturing Engineer
, you will achieve results in solving technical problems, improving existing processes, and supporting customer focused programs. There will be opportunities to get hands-on experience in a wide range of manufacturing and engineering disciplines
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, or closely related discipline
- 3+ years of related machining experience in manufacturing
- Experience in CNC machining
- Experience with GD&T, Product or Tool Design and Engineering drawing approval standards. GD&T Training Certification preferred.
- Expertise with machining principals, methods and process capability
- Demonstrated results in technical problem solving
- Strong work ethic
- Excellent attention to detail
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Experience with industrial tools and equipment preferred
- Experience in aerospace/high-temperature composites, textiles or industrial engineering systems would distinguish the candidate
- Familiarity with Lean manufacturing principles desired
- Interest and knowledge in composites and ceramics
