Orion Engineers + Constructors is currently seeking a Project Manager to join our client's Capital Projects Team at their McCook IL facility. This position offers a competitive compensation package, with salary determined based on the candidate’s experience, knowledge, and skills.

Summary
As the Project Manager you will lead and govern a portfolio of capital expenditure projects from initiation through commissioning and closeout, ensuring they align with organizational and site objectives. Managing approximately 8–12 projects at a time with an annual spend target of $3–4MM, you will act as the Owner’s representative, setting direction, priorities, and standards while individual project teams execute discipline‑specific work.
In close partnership with operations, engineering, EHS, and finance, you will drive safe, compliant, and cost‑effective project delivery that supports long‑term reliability, productivity, and growth.
- Lead and manage capital expenditure projects from initiation to completion, ensuring alignment with organizational and site goals.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive project plans, timelines, and budgets, and monitor performance against these metrics.
- Manage the full lifecycle of capital projects (planning, design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and closeout) for generally 8–12 projects at a time, targeting $3–4MM in annual capital spend.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to identify and implement process improvements and best practices in capital project execution.
- Work closely with Business Finance and the site controller to evaluate projects, perform economic analysis, and support decision‑making for capital investments.
- Lead the overall effort to develop, justify, and secure approval of Appropriation Requests (ARs) for assigned projects.
- Partner with stakeholders and contractors to ensure project objectives for safety, quality, schedule, and cost are clearly defined and achieved.
- Monitor project progress, proactively identify risks and issues, and implement effective mitigation strategies to keep projects on track.
- Forecast and manage capital expenditures on a monthly basis, providing accurate updates and variance explanations.
- Ensure all projects comply with applicable safety regulations, quality standards, and environmental and regulatory requirements typical of chemical manufacturing facilities.
- Perform other tasks as assigned or directed by the Orion manager and Client representative.
- 5+ years of project management experience in an industrial environment such as refining, petrochemical, or chemical manufacturing, with direct involvement in capital projects required.
- Associate’s or Technical degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience required; B.S. in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related technical field preferred.
- Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects simultaneously, including planning, budgeting, and execution of capital expenditure initiatives.
- Strong knowledge of capital expenditure processes and project management methodologies, with a track record of delivering projects on time and within budget.
- Experience leading cross‑functional teams and managing stakeholder expectations across Operations, Engineering, EHS, Maintenance, and Finance.
- Ability to analyze project performance (cost, schedule, and risks) and implement effective corrective and mitigation actions.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to read and interpret drawings, technical documents, policies, procedures, and project controls documentation.
- Experience specifically in petrochemical, refining, or chemical manufacturing operating units preferred. Strong leadership skills with proven success directing project teams and influencing across multiple disciplines and functions.
