Description:
The Physical Therapy Assistant partners with residents and other care providers to provide physical therapy services.
The goal is to maximize residents' functional abilities and independence.
Responsibilities include performing therapeutic procedures under the order of a physician or other accepted healthcare provider.
This is done while observing precautions, indications, and contraindications.
The assistant treats residents per department protocols and follows the therapeutic plan of care.
Incorporation of input from the resident and primary caregivers concerning the therapeutic plan of care is essential.
The assistant modifies the treatment plan of care as necessary following consultation with the evaluating therapist.
Monitoring treatment effects and progressing the treatment program towards functional goals is required.
All therapeutic interactions with residents must be documented per department procedures.
Assistive devices may need to be recommended and obtained for residents.
Education must be provided to the resident or caregiver with documentation of the results.
The assistant complies with Medicare, Medicaid, and other reimbursement regulations.
Contributions to the development of new programs and services in rehabilitation are encouraged.
It is crucial to keep the office and clinical areas clean and neat.
Routine cleaning of equipment and space is necessary.
The assistant follows all infection control procedures.
Maintaining required licenses, certifications, and competencies is expected.
Annual compliance courses must be completed on time.
Performing all essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation is mandatory.
The role requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Above 50 pounds requires a two-person lift.
Some stress is related to a high level of responsibility for quality care.
