Organization Mission

UNDSS is responsible for providing leadership, operational support and oversight of the security management system with the strategic aim of enabling the safest and most efficient conduct of mandated programmes and activities of the UN system worldwide.

Context

The Insights and Accountability Unit (IAU) within the Strategic Planning Service (SPS), under the Office of the Under-Secretary-General (OUSG) at UNDSS Headquarters, is leading a research-based initiative on Data Storytelling. This initiative aligns with the principles of UN 2.0 and the UNDSS Digital Transformation Strategy. The opportunity supports the development and internal pilot of Data Storytelling research, leveraging machine learning tools, techniques, and best practices.

Key Responsibilities

We are requesting support from online volunteers to assist with the development and documentation of the Data Storytelling pilot research. The responsibilities will include the following tasks:

Support the structuring of data-driven storytelling and related documentation.

Assist in conducting research.

Contribute to case studies and design of implications.

Prepare communication materials such as explainer slides or infographics for internal presentations.

Help identify opportunities to integrate inclusivity, risk-sensitivity, and foresight into Data Storytelling.

Required Skills and Experience

Candidates should have familiarity with machine learning, report writing, and data analysis.

Experience in data science, research, or writing structured documentation is considered an advantage.

Prior exposure to Microsoft Power Platform tools is desirable.

A professional level of verbal and written English is required.
