FMI's manufacturing facility has been a leading solutions provider of high temperature materials and composites for more than 50 years, serving the Department of Defense and NASA. The focus in Maine is on multidirectional reinforced Carbon/Carbon (C/C) and Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs) that enable high‑temperature components such as: thermal protection systems, re‑entry vehicle nose tips as well as rocket motor throats and nozzles.

Our materials are being used on ground‑breaking space initiatives such as the Orion Multi‑Purpose Crew Vehicle and the heat shield for NASA's Mars 2020 mission, important missile programs, airfoils in commercial and military jet engines, and as lightweight armor for U.S. military ground vehicles.

Manufacturing Operator

FMI is looking for a safety and goal‑oriented team player to help support our manufacturing team. Our Hill Street location is hiring a Manufacturing Operator who will operate a variety of machinery, with on‑the‑job training provided. The schedule is Monday‑Friday; 3:30 pm–11:30 pm, and includes a 10% shift differential.

Job Responsibilities
  • Needle making and sewing
  • Automated weaving on looms
  • Perform Multi‑D weaving tasks such as Z finishing and core insertion
  • Support pultruded carbon fiber rod drawing
  • Support carbon fiber stretch breaking process
  • Inspection of the loom, parts, materials and quality inspection of completed work
  • Recording of process data for manufacturing records, parts and materials
  • Load and unload equipment with proper tools and technique
  • Ensure safety and housekeeping policies/procedures are followed
  • Adhere to the Quality System
  • Support Continuous Improvement Program
What We Need From You
  • Minimum GED or High School Diploma
  • Previous manufacturing experience (preferred)
  • Ability to read, write and understand job specifications
  • Basic math aptitude
