Overview

The Mobile Diesel Technician Level II is responsible for performing licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and follow‑up repairs, light mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. The role includes advanced diagnostics and repairs under the supervision of a Senior Mobile Diesel Technician or higher.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM), DOT inspections and follow‑up repairs on light, medium and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
  • Conduct minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment (electrical, brake, cooling, starters/alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines, transmissions, clutches, differentials, etc.).
  • Diagnose, adjust, and repair various truck subsystems using test instruments (handheld computers, pressure gauges, etc.).
  • Road‑test vehicles to verify correct operation and safety.
  • Manage parts inventory, reconcile usage and maintain company‑issued service vehicle.
  • Use hand tools, precision instruments, welding equipment, lifts and jacks to complete repairs.
  • Document work on Repair Orders (RO) using the TRAIT application and upload pictures and findings.
  • Accurately complete DOT and other required forms.
  • Work independently, manage daily schedule, prioritize tasks and maintain productivity within standard repair times.
  • Communicate with clients, management and support teams via email or phone regarding repair estimates, purchase orders and updates.
  • Perform work in compliance with safety, health and environmental policies and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED with at least 3 years of related experience (alternative: a higher degree or 5 years experience).
  • Possess a set of hand tools necessary to perform job duties.
  • Must be able to complete a DOT‑regulated background screen and DOT physical (or present valid DOT medical card with >4 months validity).
  • Must be at least 21 years old, hold a valid driver’s license and maintain a Driver Qualification File.
  • Ability to lift, bend, climb and perform moderate heavy labor; competent in hand, power and specialty tools.
  • Valid current or soon‑to‑expire DOT medical card or eligible for DOT physical.
Required Certifications
  • ASE T8 (PMI) certification within 18 months of hire.
Preferred Certifications
  • ASE T3 (Drivetrain)
  • ASE T4 (Brakes)
  • ASE T5 (Suspension)
  • ASE T6 (Electrical and Electronic Systems)
  • ASE T7 (HVAC)
  • ASE 608/609 (Emissions)

  • Physical endurance for prolonged standing, walking, lifting and repetitive tasks.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Hourly base pay $26.73 – $40.10, varying by location and experience.
  • Potential commission and incentive programs.
  • $3,000 new‑hire bonus (50% after 30 days and 50% after 180 days).
