Position: Coordinate Metrology Programmer (Zeiss Calypso/PC‑DMIS)

Location:

Berlin, CTStep into a day where your expertise in GD&T, CMM programming, and advanced measurement systems sets the pace for precision manufacturing. As our CMM Programmer/Metrologist, you will develop, maintain, and generate automated inspection programs that verify production materials and components with unwavering accuracy. You’ll partner across R&D, Manufacturing, and QA to design fixtures and functional gages, translate drawings and specifications into robust inspection criteria, and uphold ANSI/ASME and ISO standards using Calypso (preferred) or PC‑DMIS/Open DMIS.A

Day in the Life Begin by qualifying probes and confirming CMM health (cleaning, scale checks) to keep bias and linearity in control.

Program and verify first-piece, in‑process, and final inspection routines, proving out methods to minimize measurement bias and R&R risks—including understanding Alpha and Beta measurement risks.

Design or procure custom fixtures and functional gages to stabilize part setups during development and production.

Support automatic data collection, connecting measurement outputs to inspection plans for traceable, auditable results.

Collaborate on tool mapping, First Article Inspections (FAIs), and in‑process checks; revise programs and documents when engineering changes arrive.

Assist with root‑cause investigations tied to automated inspection methods, tooling, or programs.

Execute and support MSA activities (Gage R&R and more) and help calibrate equipment to national/international standards—coordinating or performing calibration as needed.

Write clear work instructions and train operators on designated automated inspection equipment.

Core Responsibilities Develop, verify, and operate automated inspection programs for all production phases.

Limit measurement bias, linearity issues, and repeatability/reproducibility errors through rigorous prove‑outs.

Maintain automated inspection assets: probe qualifications, regular cleaning, and scale inspections.

Design/procure inspection fixtures; set criteria for instruments and specifications.

Enable automatic data collection linked to inspection plans.

Create and refine inspection methods, tool mapping, FAIs, and in‑process checks.

Revise programs/documents based on engineering changes.

Support root‑cause analysis for automated inspection, tooling, and programming.

Lead/participate in Gage R&R and broader MSA studies.

Support/perform calibration, ensuring traceability to recognized standards.

Author work instructions and conduct operator training.

Handle additional related duties as assigned.

Qualifications Proficiency reading GD&T per ASME Y14.5.Hands‑on knowledge of precision measuring tools and systems, including CMMs, Vision Systems, and Contracers.

Strong written and verbal English communication.

Competency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe PDF.Experience in 3D modeling and drafting.

Experience with Calypso CMM or Open DMIS software.

Ability to collaborate with R&D, Manufacturing, and QA; works effectively with minimal guidance.

Preferred Background in regulated manufacturing (Aerospace, Defense, Medical Device, Pharmaceutical, etc.).Familiarity with GMP/ISO standards.

Exposure to CT scanning, White Light, and 3D metrology.

Experience with PC‑DMIS or Geo measure.

Associate’s degree (Manufacturing or Engineering discipline preferred) or equivalent directly transferable experience.

Vision System programming

Experience

Minimum of 3 years working directly with advanced metrology equipment.

Travel Up to 10% annually, with flexibility for last‑minute needs.

May include multiple overnight trips and occasional weekends.

Physical Requirements Able to bend, stoop, squat, kneel, and lift up to 50 lbs (team lift/mechanical assist required over 50 lbs).Frequent computer use and keyboard entry.

Ability to wear safety gear: cut‑resistant gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, and slip‑resistant shoes.
