Unit Secretary – Medical Surgical Care Unit

Unit Secretary performs a variety of administrative duties to support the medical‑surgical unit on the Big Rapids campus. The role involves managing confidential records, scheduling tests and procedures, greeting and directing visitors, assisting with discharge paperwork, ordering supplies, and providing clerical support to ensure efficient unit operations.

Responsibilities
  • Perform receptionist and secretarial duties per hospital and unit standards.
  • Take incoming phone calls and direct callers to appropriate departments.
  • Help visitors and outside team members locate unit resources such as lab, radiology, patient transport, nutrition services, and environmental services.
  • Answer call lights and provide non‑direct patient care assistance.
  • Assist with discharge, admit, and transfer paperwork.
  • Order and maintain supplies, ensuring rooms are properly stocked.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent experience (required).
  • Minimum of 2 years of related experience (preferred).

Employment Details

Location:

Big Rapids Hospital – 605 Oak St, Big Rapids, MI.

Shift: Day (6:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.) – 36 hours per week, Sunday to Saturday.

Employment type:

Full time.
