Summary of Position: The University Archives seeks a reliable, detail-oriented student assistant to help preserve and provide access to the university's historical records and special collections. Student assistants gain hands‑on experience in archival practices while assisting with digitization projects, collection organization, preservation activities, and public service. This position is ideal for students interested in history, libraries, museums, records management, public history, or information science.
Position Requirements- Currently enrolled university student or eligible for fall employment
- Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs repeatedly
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures precisely
- Dependable and punctual with good organizational skills
- Comfort working in dusty or archival storage environments
- Digitize archival materials, including photographs, documents, yearbooks, newspapers, audiovisual materials, and other historical records using scanners and related equipment
- Help move archival collections within storage areas following safe lifting procedures
- Perform basic image processing, file organization, quality control, and naming of digital files according to established procedures.
- Assist with the physical arrangement and description of archival collections under the supervision of archives staff.
- Handle archival materials with care while following preservation and security guidelines
