Summary of Position:
The Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs is seeking a dependable and motivated Student Office Assistant to provide general clerical and administrative support. This position, General Clerical Level I, is ideal for a student who is organized, professional, comfortable learning new technology, and committed to maintaining confidentiality while working in a busy office environment. The most successful candidate will be: a dependable individual who takes their responsibilities seriously;
a self-starter who can work independently and seek guidance when needed; a trustworthy employee who understands the importance of confidentiality; a positive team member with a professional attitude.
Work Schedule:
Flexible scheduling is available based on office needs and the student's academic schedule. Applicants should indicate their preferred number of work hours per week.
Position Requirements:
Current Ferris State University student; dependable and responsible with a strong work ethic; ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion; strong communication and customer service skills; ability to work independently and take initiative; willingness to ask questions and learn new processes; attention to detail and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Microsoft Office applications, particularly:
Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; experience with Adobe products and/or Microsoft Publisher; previous office, receptionist, or customer service experience; experience with filing, document management, or clerical work.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
Provide support for office projects and special assignments; assist with preparing presentations, spreadsheets, documents, and communications; assist with review hiring documentation to ensure accuracy, completeness, and timely processing; assist with cross-referencing employment information and records in Banner and other applications (Excel) to verify accuracy and consistency; assist with copying, scanning, and filing documents; support the maintenance of electronic and paper records;
assist with entering and update information in various computer systems; perform general clerical duties as assigned; answer and route telephone calls professionally; greet visitors and provide front desk/reception support, as needed.
