Summary of PositionThe Summer Community Advisor (SCA) is a live-in, paraprofessional staff member within the Office of Housing and Residence Life. CAs are responsible for fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive living environment within East Campus Suites (ECS) or West Campus Apartments (WCA). This role includes community engagement, safety oversight, and administrative responsibilities. Each CA is assigned responsibility for a specific building within the ECS complex or a court within the WCA complex.
Position Requirements- Students must be registered for a minimum of 6 credit hours during the summer or be registered for at least 6 credit hours for the upcoming fall semester.
- Applicants must have completed a minimum of two semesters (fall and spring) living on campus at Ferris State University, or one full semester for transfer students, within the previous five years. The semester of application may be included.
- Must be in good academic and disciplinary standing with the University.
- Must maintain a schedule that ensures regular student contact, particularly during evening and weekend hours.
- Meeting attendance may be required.
- Applicants may not be enrolled in internships, clinicals, practicums, student teaching, the police academy, or have academic commitments that require significant time off campus while employed as a CA.
- Candidates must demonstrate the ability to role model and promote the University’s mission and vision.
- Participate in an on-call duty rotation for the community.
- Assist with the administrative operations of the community under the supervision of a Hall Director.
- Create an inclusive and engaging residential community through intentional programming focused on social and professional development.
- Maintain community safety and respond appropriately to incidents and concerns.
- Work effectively in an autonomous environment while holding themselves and peers accountable.
- Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to the frequent changes associated with summer housing, camps, and conferences.
- May have the opportunity to work up to 40 hours per week as a Desk Service Assistant within their assigned community.
- Serve as a positive role model for residents and peers.
