Summary of Position:
The College of Business at Ferris State University seeks a diverse group of outstanding applicants for a full-time, tenure track Assistant Professor position in the Department of Economics. Teaching will include economics undergraduate and graduate courses. Candidates are expected to foster a meaningful learning experience for our students; faculty are expected to be student-oriented, advise, and integrate current technology into the learning environment.

Additionally, faculty will participate in collaborative efforts to advance curricular initiatives, participate in the assessment of student learning, and further develop programmatic enhancements. Specifically, we expect the candidate to be willing to engage students outside the classroom, support and expand our existing academic initiatives, and mentor students beyond a traditional academic advising role. In support of teaching, faculty will engage in scholarly/professional activities and participate in department, college, and university committees.

The selected candidate should be willing to serve as a program coordinator. Off-campus and online teaching may be required. Courses are to be taught in person on one of Ferris State University's Campuses or online. The candidate selected for the position must reside in Michigan after acceptance of employment and will perform duties at a Ferris site. The anticipated start date of this position is January 2027 at the earliest and August 2027 at the latest.

The selected candidate for this position must be authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire without employer assistance or sponsorship now or in the future. The university will not assist with any F-1 EADs, OPT, H-1 B, etc.

Required

Education:

Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Economics (ABD may be considered if the candidate has substantial progress toward degree completion).

Work Experience:

Evidence of teaching excellence at a university level, particularly in relation to economics; the ability to effectively merge economic theory and practice; excellent interpersonal and communications skills, and evidence of teaching excellence in a face to face environment.

Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered:
Prepared to teach courses in Austrian Economics, Economic Development, Health Economics, and Law and Economics. Prior university-level teaching experience in economics. Evidence of ongoing scholarship/publication or other professional activity. Experience with active learning, data-driven instruction, and technology-enhanced teaching.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
Primary teaching responsibilities include:
Teaching Principles of Microeconomics and Principles of Macroeconomics. Teaching advanced economics electives and/or graduate-level courses as assigned based on departmental need and candidate qualifications. Supporting a meaningful learning experience by: being student-orientated, advising students, and integrating current technology into the learning environment. Teaching will generally fall within the umbrella of principles of economics courses, however advanced courses including graduate may be assigned.

To foster a meaningful learning experience for our students, faculty are expected to be student-oriented, to advise, to integrate current technology into the learning environment, and to enjoy participating in collaborative efforts to foster curricular and programmatic enhancement. In support of teaching, they will engage in scholarly/professional activities. Faculty members also have professional responsibilities which may include advising students, orientation and registration of students, participation in university committees, keeping regular posted office hours (which are scheduled at times convenient for students), and participation in traditional functions which have academic significance (e.g.) reporting initial student participation data and submitting final grades on time).

Faculty members may be required to teach off-campus or in and online environment. Teach full-time during the 9-month academic year (or 12 month). Recruitment of students (including Dawg Days, Admitted Student Days, visits to high schools or career tech centers, and other University-outreach events) will occur throughout the academic year and include some Saturdays.
