Job Description
The Department of State Aide will service customers by reviewing requests, eligibility, and application requirements; processing transactions; educating customers on services and alternative methods; and working with a sense of purpose, urgency, and accuracy for Michigan citizens.
Appointment Type / BenefitsThis position is full‑time. Therefore, you would be eligible to participate in the benefits offered by the state.
Work ScheduleAs a full‑time position, the incumbent will work a varied schedule of 40+ hours per week. Occasional travel may be required for relief assignments at other branch offices.
Schedule:
- Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
- Wednesday: 8:30 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
- Employees may be required to work on Saturdays, in accordance with contractual agreements.
Completion of high school.
Experience- Department of State Aide 6:
No specific type or amount required. - Department of State Aide 7:
One year of experience equivalent to a Department of State Aide 6. - Department of State Aide E8:
Two years of experience equivalent to a Department of State Aide, including one year equivalent to a Department of State Aide 7.
Applicants must apply through the NEOGOV system. The use of AI in the selection process is not permitted. All newly hired state employees must submit to and pass a pre‑employment drug test prior to appointment. Criminal background checks will be conducted. Failure to attend an interview without proper notice may result in removal from the selection process.
For positions requiring a CDL, a nationwide criminal history background check and completion of a formal CDL training course are required.
For security‑checked positions, U.S. citizenship must be verified. Proof may be provided by:
- Original certified birth certificate issued by a U.S. government unit or territory.
- Valid, unexpired U.S. passport.
- Certificate of Citizenship (N‑560 or N‑561).
- Certificate of Naturalization (N‑550, N‑570, or N‑578).
Photo identification must be provided. Name, date of birth on documents must match exactly. If name differs, legal proof of name change (e.g., marriage license, divorce decree, court order) must be shown.
