Paint Line Operator - 2nd Shift - Steel Plant - Rapids, MI

Job Overview

We are currently looking for a Paint Line Operator/Loader to join our team in Big Rapids. The role involves running the paint line, maintaining raw paint materials and chemicals, referencing the paint schedule, setting up and preparing the line for product runs, monitoring the painting process from pre‑wash through cure, and troubleshooting problems based on equipment experience.

• Access the production schedule to confirm correct parts are on hand and that received parts match the schedule.
• Maintain inventory to ensure paint availability and use a powered industrial truck (PIT), hand truck or dolly to load and move materials to the work area.
• Program recipes into paint booths and fill containers with prescribed quantities of paint, chemicals, or other materials; verify correct paints are placed in hoppers and corresponding booths and change paint/powder as needed.
• Monitor the paint room computer system to verify painting sequence and all other paint functions (wash tank, spray guns, booth set‑up, dry‑off and cure oven) and make adjustments as necessary.
• Manually paint parts when quantity is minimal or for special/unique products.
• Maintain the paint area by cleaning spray tanks, hoses, and nozzles using solvent, brushes, and cloths; be responsible for booth cleaning.
• Perform all required preventive maintenance.

• Education:
  
  8th grade or equivalent.
• Minimum 2 years of prior paint experience preferred; knowledge of how environmental conditions (temperature, humidity) affect the painting process and ability to adjust accordingly.
• Ability to obtain and maintain powered industrial truck certification.

• Large machinery and equipment used; possibility of cuts, scrapes or bruises.
• Moderate exposure to dust, noise, solvents, heat, paint and lubricants; possible exposure to glue, solvent, heat, paint, fiberglass and denatured alcohol.
• Constant mental and visual alertness required to avoid serious injury to self and others.
• Eye protection required; hearing protection may be required.
• Move and may lift materials and/or products weighing up to 50 pounds, occasionally more (assistance given with heavier objects).
• Walk, bend, twist, turn, reach and lift while performing functions of position; standing for extended periods.
• Work requires regular repetitive arm and hand movement; may be required to climb stairs and ladders.

• Ability to utilize an electronic production system and relevant technology tools (PC, tablet, keyboard, mouse, RF gun).
• Ability to use precision measuring gauges to ensure quality parts.
• Ability to troubleshoot and make equipment adjustments if defects arise.
