Security Officer

Overview

DK Security is Michigan’s fastest growing security company. Established in 1995, we began as an investigations firm and rapidly expanded to provide uniform security, event staff security, loss prevention services, and more based on client needs.

This position protects the site’s building, grounds, assets, employees, students, and visitors from criminal activity, accidents, fires, and natural disasters while delivering outstanding customer service.

Schedule: Monday through Friday, Various Days, Part Time 0700‑1900

Compensation: $20.00 per hour

Location: Big Rapids, MI

• Guard posts at entry/exit points of client buildings and grounds.
• Conduct foot and/or vehicle patrols of interior and exterior grounds to ensure a safe and secure environment.
• Prevent unauthorized persons from entering restricted areas.
• Check employee, vendor, and visitor identifications.
• Identify suspicious people, packages, and activities.
• Follow site‑specific post guidelines.
• Document daily activities and report all incidents.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Age 18+ with a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent education.
• At least 21 and a Michigan CPL or LEOSA cardholder to perform armed security work.
• No felony convictions per MCL 338.1060.
• No misdemeanors related to dishonesty, fraud, impersonation, assault, weapons, unauthorized sale of information or evidence, controlled substances (including marijuana), or multiple alcohol‑related offenses per MCL 338.1060.
• Must pass a drug screening at hire and randomly thereafter (including for marijuana).
• Adhere to the company’s uniform and appearance policy.
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to de‑escalate situations in a non‑confrontational manner; fluency in English.
• Willingness to obtain CPR/First Aid/AED certification and administer care in emergencies.
• Ability to move quickly, run short distances, sit, stand, walk long distances, and navigate stairs for 8–12 hour shifts.
• Ability to work indoors or outdoors in all seasons.
• Capacity to hear conversations in noisy environments via 2‑way radio.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds (70 pounds if armed).
• Work independently with minimal supervision.

• Benefits begin once every November for employees who have been employed for at least 1 year and are averaging 20+ hours per week at the time of eligibility check.
