Regular Evening and Weekend;

Brief Description

The Nurse III House Supervisor performs highly complex nursing work and is responsible for the after‑hours operation of campus‑based nursing services. Responsibilities include managing clinical nursing practice and patient care delivery; developing nursing personnel; ensuring compliance with regulatory and professional standards; creating staffing plans; serving as consultant and clinical and administrative expert after hours; advising leadership on incidents; and participating in policy development and performance improvement initiatives.

The role requires leadership, supervision, quality assurance, and emergency response capabilities.

Essential Job Functions

• Attend work regularly and work a specified shift schedule, including overtime and rotating shifts as permitted.

• Coordinate the after‑hours operation of campus‑based nursing services, conduct hospital rounds, and promote safe and therapeutic environments.

• Ensure compliance with The Joint Commission standards, CMS conditions of participation, Texas Administrative Code, Texas Board of Nursing, and state regulations.

• Prepare daily house supervisor reports and coordinate with site leadership and external visitors, including inspectors and regulatory agencies.

• Implement and monitor program‑specific staffing plans, provide clinical unit coverage, administer medication, assessment, and patient monitoring, and serve as subject‑matter expert.

• Coordinate admission processes, triage, and assessments during non‑traditional hours; manage client abuse and neglect processes; act as incident commander during disasters and emergencies after hours.

• Participate on the Nursing Clinical Operations Team and other committees to advance quality assurance, performance improvement, and policy development.

• Perform other duties as assigned, including disaster response and continuity of operations.

Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities

(KSAs)
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws, regulations, and policies for individuals with mental health issues, including Texas Board of Nursing rules.
  • Knowledge of the Texas Nurse Practice Act and peer review processes.
  • Knowledge of emergency procedures and equipment, including CPR.
  • Knowledge of nursing care standards, settlement agreements, and healthcare guidelines.
  • Skill in supervising employees and in the care and treatment of patients.
  • Skill in problem analysis, planning, and leading change.
  • Proficiency with computers, software, and electronic health record systems.
  • Ability to manage time and prioritize tasks.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, training, policy development, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to maintain required continuing education hours.
Licensure and Registration

Licensed registered nurse (RN) in the state of Texas (or a state that recognizes reciprocity through the Nurse Licensure Compact).

Experience and Education

• Graduation from a nursing program accredited by the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners (required).

• Minimum of three (3) years of RN experience in a recognized health agency, hospital, or health‑care facility (required).

Additional Eligibility

All applicants must be at least 18 years of age to be considered for employment at a state‑operated facility. Males between 18–25 must be registered with the Selective Service. Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre‑employment drug screen, and registry checks. Vaccination against hepatitis B, measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis, and influenza is required; non‑influenza vaccine may require mask use and other protective measures.
