Job Summary

Motor Vehicle Technician II at Big Spring State Hospital (Big Spring, TX). Day shift, non‑telework, 100% paid employee health insurance for full‑time eligible employees, defined benefit pension plan, and other benefits.

• Perform skilled mechanical work on vehicles, including engine, transmission, brakes, and hydraulic components.
• Diagnose and repair electrical and cooling system issues.
• Install or repair accessories and perform preventive maintenance on automotive and related gasoline and diesel equipment.
• Maintain routine service and record‑keeping schedules for fleet vehicles.
• Assist with and perform complex jobs under supervision, as needed.
• Participate in disaster response or continuity of operations activation, if required.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the department.

• Experience with diesel and gasoline engine‑powered equipment.
• Knowledge of preventive maintenance schedules.
• Effective communication with other departments.
• Ability to work independently and handle multiple responsibilities.

• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
• Verifiable experience as a mechanic.
• Current valid licensing or certifications required for the position.
• Minimum age requirement: 18 years; certain locations require 21 years.
