Job OverviewSupport the operation and maintenance of state hospital facilities by performing advanced restoration, renovation, building maintenance, and construction work. Responsibilities include inspecting building systems, planning and executing repairs, supervising staff, and ensuring compliance with codes and safety regulations.
Responsibilities- Perform restoration, renovation, and repair work on buildings, utility systems, and stationary equipment.
- Conduct inspections and make adjustments, installations, and maintenance of building systems for various trades (doors, locks, fire alarm, sprinkler, carpentry, painting, electrical).
- Operate machinery such as backhoes, forklifts, and other equipment as needed.
- Establish work schedules, assign staff, and oversee completion of renovation and repair projects.
- Process paperwork and maintain accurate records for work orders, projects, and material requisitions.
- Train staff on proper repair procedures and maintain training records.
- Participate in disaster response and continuity of operations activities, which may require alternate shift patterns or locations.
- Stay knowledgeable of applicable codes, regulations, and safety standards.
- Make preventive maintenance plans and conduct inspections to identify necessary corrective actions.
- Knowledge of building systems, electronics, boilers, painting, plastering, carpentry, plumbing, electrical fixtures, welding, HVAC, sanitation, and refrigeration.
- Knowledge of industrial safety, fire and safety regulations.
- Skill in using hand tools, power tools, and test equipment.
- Skill in preventative maintenance and inspection of building systems.
- Ability to interpret drawings, schematics, or sketches.
- Ability to organize preventive maintenance programs and supervise work of others.
- Ability to work independently or collaboratively with a team.
- Strong problem‑solving, decision‑making, and judgment skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience in construction, maintenance, or equipment/vehicle repair (electrical, plumbing, masonry, mechanical, locksmithing, painting, motor vehicle, groundskeeping, HVAC, carpentry, welding, electronic cabling).
- Valid Texas driver’s license (or ability to obtain within 90 days).
- Must pass fingerprint criminal background check, pre‑employment drug screen, and required registry checks.
- Compliance with HHSC immunization policy.
- Willingness to work overtime, extended hours, and potentially alternate shift patterns.
