Motor Vehicle Technician II (18449)

Position available at Big Spring State Hospital, part of Texas Health and Human Services Commission. Salary range $3,095.33–$4,594.50 per month, day shift plus additional days. Requires proficiency in automotive mechanical repair, preventive maintenance, and equipment servicing.

Responsibilities
  • Perform general automotive and mechanical repairs, including engine rebuilds, transmissions, carburetors, and brake systems.
  • Carry out diagnostic electrical and cooling‑system repairs.
  • Install or repair vehicle accessories and related equipment.
  • Execute preventive maintenance schedules and complex service work on gasoline and diesel engine‑powered equipment.
  • Maintain accurate service records and documentation.
  • Participate in service calls, following agency guidelines and safety protocols.
  • Assist with disaster response or continuity operations as required.
  • Optionally perform inspections for state regulations.
  • Essential Job Functions

  • Maintain a current valid license and certifications.
  • Complete required documentation accurately.
  • Communicate effectively with department staff.

  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
    • Experience with diesel and gasoline engine‑powered equipment.
    • Proof of verifiable mechanic experience.
    • Knowledge of preventive maintenance schedules.
    Licensure and Certifications

    Valid Texas driver’s license with a clean driving record. Non‑Texas drivers must provide an original certified driving record from their state or obtain a Texas driver’s license.

    Qualifications
    • High‑school diploma or GED.
    • Experience in automotive maintenance.
    • Ability to pass background checks and drug screening.
    Additional Requirements

    Flexible work hours, willingness to work overtime and overnight hours. May be required to be present for disaster response or COOP activation.
