Job Description

Severe Disabilities Teacher: 7.5 hours per day, 5 days a week; 212 days. Locations:
Billerica, MA. Reporting to:
School Principal.

Valley Collaborative is a Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education approved public school entity. We provide high quality academic, therapeutic and vocational services to individuals referred by local school districts and social service agencies. We also provide ongoing professional development and training experiences for educators and educational agencies. We create, adapt, and provide flexible programming to address evolving needs and maximize educational and occupational skills.

Programs maintain superior quality and reasonable costs, meeting or exceeding state standards.

Responsibilities
  • Provide instruction to students with severe disabilities for 7.5 hours per day, 5 days a week.
  • Work with students with multiple diagnoses, including intellectual impairment, autism, and multiple disabilities.
  • Implement de‑escalation and physical intervention strategies.
  • Collaborate with students using augmentative and alternative communication.
  • Participate in an interdisciplinary school team to ensure student needs are met.
  • Coordinate with nurse, SLP, OT, PT, and BCBA to develop and implement IEPs.
  • Maintain an organized, safe, and productive classroom to facilitate progress.
  • Maintain consistent contact with families.
  • Supervise classroom aides.
  • Develop IEP goals and progress reports reflective of student needs.
  • Transport students in collaborative vehicles when necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience (preferred).
  • Bachelor’s degree required;
    Master’s degree preferred.
  • DESE certification in Severe Disabilities – All levels.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to approach individuals creatively and thoughtfully.
  • Highly flexible to meet identified student needs.
  • Commitment to the goals, mission, and philosophy of the organization.
  • Model respect, honesty, consideration, responsibility, and a positive attitude toward peers and students.
  • Participate in staff meetings and in‑service training as requested.
  • Demonstrated positive and caring attitude toward students, clients, and staff.
  • Remain flexible and adaptable to department needs.
Physical Demands
  • Constant standing or walking.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Perform bending, reaching, lifting, carrying, twisting, pushing, pulling, and handling equipment.
  • Operate equipment and systems safely and effectively.
Other Competencies
  • Understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Adapt to routine, repetitive tasks within a specific time frame.
  • Prioritize work assignments to meet time requirements.
