Overview

Rapiscan, an OSI Systems Company, is seeking a Manufacturing Systems Engineer based out of Billerica, MA. Rapiscan Systems designs, manufactures, and markets security and inspection systems worldwide. Our products are used to inspect baggage, cargo, people, vehicles, and other objects for weapons, explosives, drugs, and contraband. They are installed in airports, border crossings, railway stations, seaports, government and military installations, and nuclear facilities.

The Manufacturing Systems Engineer III is responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing manufacturing systems and processes to improve efficiency, quality, and cost‑effectiveness. This role involves collaborating with cross‑functional teams to ensure seamless integration of equipment, automation, and software systems within production environments.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain manufacturing systems to support production goals and quality standards.
  • Lead projects focused on process improvement, automation, and system integration.
  • Analyze production data to identify bottlenecks and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with engineering, design, quality, operations, and IT teams to ensure manufacturability, system compatibility, and compliance.
  • Support implementation and integration of MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems) and ERP systems.
  • Ensure adherence to safety, regulatory, and quality standards in all manufacturing processes.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation, SOPs, and training materials for system operations.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and technicians.
  • Apply expertise in production workflows, assembly processes, and quality assurance within a manufacturing environment.
  • Optimize manufacturing operations for efficiency and scalability.
  • Create and maintain detailed technical work instructions within a controlled process environment.
  • Perform requirements analysis, system architecture design, and integration across mechanical, electrical, and software domains.
  • Interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams and support lifecycle management.
  • Configure and troubleshoot networking for connected systems, including IP addressing, subnetting, and basic network diagnostics.
  • Execute scripts for system configuration and deployment in production environments.
  • Install and configure software packages on deployment systems, ensuring compatibility across hardware and software platforms.
  • Administer Windows and Linux operating systems, including command‑line tools and system basics.
  • Troubleshoot installation issues and maintain system reliability.
  • Work with PLCs and industrial control systems to support automation and process control.
  • Demonstrate behavior consistent with the Company’s Code of Ethics and Conduct.
  • Report any quality problems or defects promptly to management for corrective action.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to meet business needs.

Qualifications
