This EO/IR systems Test Engineer position will be deeply involved in and responsible for sophisticated EO (visible-NIR), SWIR, MWIR and LWIR reflective and refractive optical imaging subsystems specifications & requirements development, device level, subsystem level and full system level optical and imaging test, image quality analysis, and evaluation.
The engineer will be required to hands-on EO/IR imaging test in the Lab and in the fields. This is an
important position in the Systems Engineering group.
PrimaryDuties & Responsibilities
- Lead and perform VIS/SWIR/MWIR/LWIR imaging sensors, payload and full EO/IR gimbal systems test in Labs or in product application fields.
- Perform optical design using ZEMAX tool and tolerance analysis.
- Perform radiometric analysis, troubleshooting and EO/IR image sensor and systems performance verification.
- Develop design verification test (DVT) plans and test procedures.
- Analyze test data and create test reports.
- Support team to develop optical components, optical imaging subsystems and optical full systems specifications and requirements.
- Create, review and present flow down specifications for lower tier optical components and subsystems.
- Support New Product Introduction (NPI) process and Design for Manufacturability (DFM).
- Report work and findings to functional manager and project leads.
- BS or MS in optical engineering, optomechanical or electronics Engineering.
- 3+ years direct EO/SWIR/IR optical and imaging design & test experience.
- Solid base in optical engineering.
- Demonstrated hands‑on experience in characterizing and testing EO/IR sensor systems.
- Demonstrated hands‑on experience in design of optical Lens, Cassegrain, prism, optical filter etc. for EO/IR imaging.
- Demonstrated hands‑on experience in using optical design tool, ZEMAX.
- Good knowledge base and experience in VIS/NIR/SWIR/MWIR/LWIR materials.
- Demonstrated experience in creating design validation test (DVT) test plan and test report.
- Excellent knowledge and experience in optical design review, opto‑mechanical interface model & drawing review.
- Excellent knowledge base and experiment in EO/IR image sensors and EO/IR/Laser range finder system integration.
- Strong experience and capability in leading or working with a multi‑discipline team on new product development from conceptual through PDR, CDR, TRR to LRIP.
- Demonstrated experience in developing, maintaining, and tracking specifications and requirements compliance matrix, risk identification and risk mitigation.
