Overview
Rapiscan, an OSI Systems Company, is seeking a Technical Facilities Manager, based out of Billerica, MA.
Rapiscan Systems, an OSI Systems, Inc. company, designs, manufactures and markets security and inspection systems worldwide. Our products are used to inspect baggage, cargo, people, vehicles and other objects for weapons, explosives, drugs and other contraband. Rapiscan security and inspection devices can be found in a wide range of locations such as airports, border crossings, railway stations, seaports and terminals, government and military installations, and nuclear facilities.
The person in this role will lead with a hands‑on approach in the planning, execution, and maintenance of facilities, equipment, and site infrastructure. Responsible for ensuring operational reliability through proactive maintenance, technical troubleshooting, and oversight of construction and modification projects. Supports Rapiscan's mission, priorities, and values by delivering safe, efficient, and compliant facilities operations.
Responsibilities- Directly oversee and perform maintenance of site facilities, equipment, and communication systems; ensure preventive maintenance tasks are documented and completed by the Facilities team.
- Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues on‑site, escalating or coordinating vendor support when necessary.
- Develop and implement short, medium and long‑term facility preventive maintenance plans and corrective maintenance responses.
- Plan and facilitate timely execution of facility CAPEX projects, including submittal of required documentation for internal approval and obtaining necessary quotations from vendors.
- Act as Project Manager for site construction and technical upgrade projects, ensuring compliance with specifications and safety standards.
- Supervise and evaluate contractors/vendors (e.g., janitorial, snow removal, mechanical/electrical services) with daily inspections to verify quality and adherence to standards.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment performance, repairs, and inspections to support compliance and audit readiness.
- Develop and manage maintenance budgets, including setting up vendors in ERP systems, issuing requisitions and purchase orders, approving payments/invoices, maintaining documentation, and staying within forecasted budgets.
- Support ongoing reviews of organizational space needs and identify potential opportunities for additional space near the site.
- Write, review and update maintenance procedures.
- Demonstrate behavior consistent with the Company’s Code of Ethics and Conduct.
- Report quality problems or defects to management for corrective action to prevent recurrence.
- Perform duties that may be modified or assigned at any time to meet the needs of the business.
- Associate’s degree or technical certification in facilities management, mechanical/electrical systems, or related field preferred (high school diploma required).
- 5+ years’ experience in a similar role in facilities or construction, including site maintenance, capital projects, and supervising outside vendors.
- Solid mechanical and electrical aptitude and the ability to troubleshoot equipment; willingness to roll up sleeves and get the job done.
- Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and local building codes.
- Experience in performance and documentation of equipment maintenance.
- Ability to demonstrate technical and supervisory skills, prioritize work, and perform autonomously using judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
- Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends as required to complete projects/tasks with minimal impact to production operations.
- Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and maintain relationships internally, especially with the Operations team.
- Obtain and maintain certifications/licenses to operate Powered Industrial Trucks (PITs/fork trucks) and Hoists (overhead cranes).
- Obtain and maintain PIT train‑the‑trainer certification and train & certify relevant operations staff for multiple styles of PITs.
- Demonstrate ability to train and certify operations staff in safe equipment use.
