Position: Sr Process Operator, Battery Materials – 2nd & 3rd Shift Premiums Billerica, MA

Your Role at Cabot:
Cabot is seeking Sr Process Operators to join the Battery Materials team located at Cabot's primary CNS production and R&D facility in Billerica, MA.

These positions are responsible for running chemical process systems and related equipment for both production and R&D work in a safe manner and following plant safety policies and procedures. Additionally, these positions work on Cabot's best-in-class product of conductive carbon nanomaterial, which is used in plastic composites and batteries. Carbon Nanostructures (CNS) are produced in a roll‑to‑roll Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) process.

The Cabot CNS team will provide a thorough training/shadowing program to ensure new members are fully cross‑trained in all aspects of the production process, including quality control testing and basic maintenance. Following the training program, new members will transition into their dedicated shifts listed below.

  • 2nd Shift: 2PM – 11PM (Shift Differential +$1.25)
  • 3rd Shift: 10PM – 7AM (Shift Differential +$2.25)
How You’ll Make an Impact
  • Controls chemical process and operates all related equipment using the distributed control system (Lab View). Follows work instructions (WI), standard operating procedures (SOPs), and product quality control plans (PQCP).
  • Adjusts controls to regulate variables for production units when needed. Performs setup procedures to prepare systems for operation.
  • Monitors and troubleshoots the process to maintain required operating conditions. Conducts in‑process quality control testing.
  • Performs minor maintenance on process and support equipment in production.
  • May use a business management system to enter work orders and requisitions as needed.
  • Transfers and moves materials, assists in packaging product for shipment, and in loading/unloading product or raw materials.
  • Participates in scheduled safety meetings and completes safety training requirements.
  • May provide training and guidance to operators in training.
  • Supports efforts to implement and maintain the Responsible Care Management System in line with the RC14001 technical specification.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and keeps the work area safe and clean.
What You’ll Bring to Cabot
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Additional coursework or licensing in chemistry preferred.
  • 2–5 years of chemical operation experience.
  • Manual dexterity, accuracy, and attention to detail; general mechanical aptitude.
  • Able to read and interpret complex operating instructions and basic shop mathematics.
  • High level of safety awareness and attention to detail.
  • Written, verbal communication, and active listening skills; capacity to cross‑train with other operating units.
  • Organizational and record‑keeping skills; computer literacy.
  • Flexibility to perform changing assignments and required off‑shift hours.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and use material handling equipment.
  • Ability to remain calm and react effectively in critical situations.
  • Supports efforts to implement and maintain the Responsible Care Management System in line with the RC14001 technical specification.
How We’ll Support Your Success
  • Pay starts at $29.69 an hour, with shift differentials of +$1.25 for the 2nd Shift and +$2.25 for the 3rd Shift.
