The primary purpose of the Operations Lead on Second Shift is to establish, coordinate, and support all aspects of manufacturing and continuous improvements within the assigned area, with a strong focus on both CNC Machining and Flow-forming processes. Job SummaryThe primary purpose of the Operations Lead on Second Shift is to establish, coordinate, and support all aspects of manufacturing and continuous improvements within the assigned area, with a strong focus on both CNC Machining and Flow-forming processes. The Operations Lead will apply lean manufacturing principles to lead, motivate, train, and supervise employees on the second shift. This position plays a critical role in driving continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities, implementing effective solutions, reducing costs, and solving operational problems.
Key Responsibilities- Achieve department safety, quality, cycle time and on-time delivery goals
- Plan and direct area activities to obtain safe and efficient operations
- Ensure all direct reports adhere to all general rules and business policies
- Apply leadership skills to lead, motivate, train personnel and sustain a 6S environment
- Manage employee schedules and all work forces in assigned areas to include machining completion with area
- Evaluate the performance of all direct employees, conduct performance improvement plans as well as disciplinary actions when applicable
- Assist in the creation of work instructions for all aspects of flow-forming and CNC machining processes
- Track all direct employees’ work time and PTO in the timekeeping system and ensure proper interaction with the ERP system to properly manage data integrity
- Monitor processes and tasks in effort to identify problems and improvement opportunities
- Identify, plan and lead improvements events utilizing continuous improvements tools
- Maintain the safety culture to raise employee awareness, recognize and correct unsafe conditions and acts
- Work closely with other departments within the business unit to ensure OTD (on time delivery) while utilizing effect production scheduling practices and TOC (Theory of Constraints) to alleviate bottlenecks and reduce waste.
- Technology degree (i.e. mechanical, manufacturing, industrial engineering or equivalent) - OR - minimum 5 years of work-related experience in a manufacturing environment
- CNC machine shop background with a focus in lathe work
- Background in metallurgy and/or metal forming
- Experience with LEAN manufacturing practices and continuous improvement concepts
- Be able to work core hours of 4pm to 12:30am, Monday to Friday, with the understanding that you may need to flex those hours based on business need.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen/Persons due to the nature of the work, compliance with federal contracts, and exposure to ITAR/EAR-regulated technical data.
