As a Sr Lab Technical Operator, you will be joining the Analytical Department within Cabot’s technology organization at the Billerica, MA location. Working under minimal supervision you will perform a variety of standard and non-routine activities related to chemical and physical testing of carbon black feedstock. Primary responsibility involves operating complex equipment for feedstock characterization and process simulation testing. You may also support additional hands‑on testing of various materials within Analytical using established methodologies and instrumentation.

How

You’ll Make an Impact:
  • Set up analytical equipment for feedstock analysis.
  • Conduct carbon black feedstock characterization and process simulation testing.
  • Prepare materials for routine and non-routine testing and adjust testing parameters within defined ranges.
  • Ensure that tests are conducted thoroughly and on a timely basis.
  • Good understanding of how the equipment/processes work.
  • May work with others to develop test methods for new or existing pieces of equipment.
  • Keep notes, enter data to database.
  • Generate, organize data, provide summary interpretation to identify issues and trends as necessary.
  • Calibrate testing equipment and perform routine maintenance, as needed.
  • Adhere to all intellectual property standards throughout area of responsibility.
  • Support efforts to implement and maintain the Responsible Care® Management System in line with the requirements of the RC14001® technical specification, as applicable to the site/region.
  • Strictly follow and comply with all SH&E procedures, standards and regulations and constantly strive for Excellence in the field of Safety, Health and preservation of the Environment.
  • Maintain work area in compliance with safety rules and regulations.
  • Participates in scheduled safety meetings and completes safety training requirements.
What You’ll Bring to Cabot:
  • Secondary degree with a minimum of 4 years of related experience, OR Associates degree in technical discipline with a minimum of 2 years of related experience
  • Broad knowledge of laboratory testing equipment and protocols.
  • Preferably experience with high-temperature, pressurized laboratory systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting ability for mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation issues.
  • Strong safety mindset and adherence to laboratory procedures.
  • Capacity to identify out-of-range results and note unusual patterns.
  • Ability to classify and organize data in a logical and orderly way as well as plan work to ensure timely completion of assignments.
  • Quality and precision oriented.
  • Display great care in observing and following testing protocols.
  • Collaborative attitude and inter-personal skills; willing to share information and resources with peers.
  • Proficiency with computers and standard office applications.
