Position: Docketing Technician (Office Automation)

Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain automated records from initial referral to final disposition and case file closure.
  • Receive inquiries on case status.
  • Retrieve information using routine queries from hard copy reports.
  • Exercise confidentiality, tact, discretion and judgment in determining what information may be properly released.
  • Integrate output from different software types (e.g., tables produced by applications and charts and graphs produced by electronic spreadsheet applications) into work processing or desktop publishing text.
  • Develop local docketing training and activities and materials.
  • Advise other docketing personnel on unique or complex cases or situations.
Conditions of Employment

  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.

  • Time-in-Grade:
    Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement.
  • You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement and before placement in the position.
Qualifications

Applicants must possess and demonstrate in their application packages that they meet the following minimum qualifications:

  • GS-05: At least one of the following:
    • Specialized

      Experience:

      At least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 level in Federal Service (e.g., data entry, report review, records maintenance).
    • Education:

      Four years of education above high school leading to a bachelor’s degree in any field. One year full-time study is defined as 30 semester hours (45 quarter hours) or the equivalent.
    • Combination of

      Education and Experience:

      Education in excess of the first 60 semester hours is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study beyond the second year is equivalent to six months of specialized experience.
  • GS-06: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level. Examples include updating and extracting legal data, researching a variety of legal sources, developing and maintaining automated records for final dispositions, reviewing statistical reports to respond to inquiries, determining if case files should be maintained or closed based on data review.
  • Type at least 40 words per minute with a five-minute sample and no more than three errors (a typing test may later be required).

Special Programs:

  • Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP): Eligible displaced federal competitive service employees may receive selection priority if the vacancy is within their ICTAP eligibility, they apply under the instructions in the announcement, and they are well-qualified with an established ranking score of 85 or better. Proof of eligibility must be provided.
  • Career Transition Assistance Plan (CTAP): Eligible surplus and displaced competitive service employees in the Department of Justice receive selection priority under the same conditions.
  • Veterans Employment Opportunity Act (VEOA): Eligible veterans may apply and compete for positions announced under merit promotion procedures. Necessary documentation includes a DD-214 Member Copy 4.
  • Special Employment Consideration: Persons with disabilities, veterans with a compensable service-connected disability of 30% or more, certain other veterans, spouses of certain members of the armed forces, and returning Peace Corps volunteers may be eligible for non-competitive appointments. Submit appropriate documentation and indicate desired authority on the questionnaire.
Education
