Switchboard Operator

Job Description

In this position, the Switchboard Operator provides processing of all inbound calls from the public and internal users, providing general information and caller connecting support through the use of the telephone system.

Part‑time, 30 hours/week. Grave shift: 9 p.m. – 7 a.m. Tuesday – Thursday. No on‑call or weekend requirements.

• Answers incoming switchboard calls in the order they’re received.
• Assists callers: answers questions, gives directions, transfers calls or pages.
• Answers the hospital emergency line, monitors nurse call and dispatches all emergencies.
• Monitors and dispatches hospital facilities alarms.
• Performs Resource Specialist duties (after‑hours answering and contacting on‑call providers, after‑hours triage, after‑hours medical records requests, after‑hours appointment scheduling).

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to type 40 wpm.
• Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically within a multi‑functional team.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to successfully function in a fast‑paced, service‑oriented environment with minimal face‑to‑face interaction.
• Experience in understanding and usage of computers as well as the ability to learn applications relevant to the position.

• Sedentary – primarily sitting, lifting up to 10 lbs.

Hourly range: $17.77 – $23.10, based on experience.
