Agent Territorial Spécialisé des Ecoles Maternelles (ATSEM)

The ATSEM is employed by the Commune and is under its administrative and remuneration authority but exercises its functions under the authority of the school director. The ATSEM belongs to the educational community. It assists the teacher for the reception and hygiene of children. It ensures the cleanliness of the premises and the materials directly used by the children. It may also be responsible for the care of children during school meal times.

Assisting teachers of kindergarten for the reception, animation and hygiene of children:

• Welcome children with the teacher
• Prepare the classroom before the arrival of children
• Help the child in the acquisition of autonomy
• Ensure the physical, affective and hygiene safety of children
• Assist the teacher in the preparation and/or animation of pedagogical activities
• Participate in educational projects
• Monitor the nap and manage the dormitories
• Supervise the children and set up adapted activities during school meal times

Preparation and cleanliness of premises and materials used by children:

• Maintain the premises (toilets, classroom...) and the material (tables, chairs...) in a state of cleanliness and functioning
• Put in order and clean the floors, furniture and glass surfaces of the classroom
• Ensure the cleaning of the linen
• Disinfect the games and toys
• Control the supply of material and products

- Know the main principles of physical, psychological and affective development of young children
