About

The Role

We are seeking an Outside Sales Engineer – Control Systems to join our team. This role requires a strong understanding of HVAC controls applications and equipment, as well as the ability to integrate systems across a wide range of HVAC solutions. Montana’s competitive, package‑based market demands technical expertise and strategic thinking.

A key focus of this position is to strengthen our presence in the controls market by building strong partnerships with local HVAC controls contractors. Representing a portfolio of controls‑specific products, this individual will serve as a technical resource to help contractors bring these solutions to market.

Salary

$80,000+

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manage multiple ongoing projects, focusing on selling HVAC controls equipment and systems.
  • Build partnering relationships with contractors and consulting engineers while understanding the customer's business needs.
  • Utilize manufacturer selection programs to build and influence system design, selections, and solutions with customers.
  • Create competitive, high‑quality, and timely estimates, bids, proposals, and cost/benefit analyses.
  • Manage the equipment estimation and bid execution of HVAC projects to ensure consistency in closing sales through effective communication and support.
  • Oversee the sales process and work with the S. Conley project management and estimation teams to determine project requirements, constraints, and responsibilities to meet the customer’s system design, installation, and maintenance expectations.
  • Demonstrate technical expertise as the subject matter expert in equipment.
  • Perform system startup, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning as needed.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Education and Experience
  • 5+ years of commercial HVAC controls experience required, with a full understanding of systems and the commercial HVAC market.
  • Experience in HVAC equipment with knowledge of the construction process and the key elements of a mechanical contractor’s success.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering technology (MET) or a related field preferred but not required.
  • Experience in designing, specifying, budgeting, and selection is preferred.
  • Strong focus on building customer relationships and a solid understanding of the sales process.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Proficiency in HVAC selection software or related CRM/ERP systems.
