Position: Geologist 6 years min experience

Job Description

AECOM has an opening for an experienced Geologist in our Billings, Montana office to assist with a variety of projects including data management, site investigations and remediation. The successful candidate will assist with gathering and analyzing geological, hydrogeological and geochemical data in both the field and office settings. Field activities include soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, air and soil vapor sample collection, geological logging and interpretation, and oversight of subcontractors including laboratories and excavation and drilling companies.

Office activities involve preparation of investigation reports and providing support to junior to mid-level staff on projects. The role may involve task managing one or more persons on field activities and supporting project managers to help accomplish tasks.

Responsibilities
  • Support a wide range of environmental investigation and remediation projects under CERCLA, RCRA, and State jurisdictions.
  • Contribute directly to the preparation and review of technical project deliverables (e.g., work plans, remedial investigations, and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments).
  • Conduct soil, groundwater, and vapor intrusion sampling.
  • Contribute on projects regarding technical approach, numerical analysis, cost estimation, planning, design, scheduling, quality control, and safety.
  • Job duties will involve both field work and office assignments with occasional overnight travel required.
  • Develop clear and defensible conceptual site models for complex sites.
  • Conduct research and investigation work as required.
  • Plan and organize project studies.
  • Assist in resolving conflicting technical information and unsuitability of standard procedures.
  • Understand CERCLA, RCRA, state regulations, and waste management requirements.
  • Develop UFP QAPP and other federal project documents.
  • Evaluate complex environmental data sets, including the use of modeling and statistics.
  • Prepare work plans, technical reports, and presentations for technical meetings with clients and regulators.
  • Perform complex assignments often requiring the development of unique solutions to problems.
  • Actively communicate with the technical team and project manager.
  • May oversee work of less experienced scientists.
Qualifications
  • BA/BS in Geology, engineering, or scientific degree and a minimum of 6 years of experience or demonstrated equivalency.
  • Valid driver’s license; subject to motor vehicle records check.
  • Ability to travel up to 20% to various job sites within the US.
  • Must be a US citizen or permanent resident.
  • Position does not offer sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Successful candidate will be required to pass a drug assessment, required by clients.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience and knowledge of state and federal regulations.
  • Computer proficient in MS Office programs.
  • Experience with developing conceptual site models and preparing remediation strategies.
  • Experience completing contaminant fate and transport evaluation.
  • Experience conducting risk assessments.
  • Knowledge of vapor intrusion sampling methods and CSM development.
  • Experience developing and preparing reports for submittal and acceptance for technical clients and regulators.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with clients and project team.
  • Ability to write and review complex technical documents, perform high-level review and strategy.
  • Ability to prepare graphics and reports that present complex technical matters in a clear and concise manner.
  • Computer proficiency in a variety of statistical programs.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Strong team worker and flexible.
  • Attention to detail and thorough approach to work.
  • Ability to multitask and strong communication skills.
  • Organized and able to work within a team of technical experts.
  • Able to work well in a team setting.
  • Develop cost estimates associated with field related activities.
  • Learn and develop a keen understanding of hazard recognition.
Compensation

$75,000 per year.
