Idaho Asphalt Supply, Inc. is a leading asphalt supplier and marketer in the Inland Northwest and Pacific Northwest Regions. With plants in Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, Oregon, California and Arizona, IAS supplies a diverse product line of asphalts, polymer modified asphalts and asphalt emulsions to the Road maintenance and construction industry. IAS is looking for an energized, flexible self-starter to fill a full-time opening for Director of EHS.
Position Responsibilities:
Reporting to the VP of Operations, the EHS Director will lead, direct, and be responsible for the environmental, health, and safety, efforts for all Idaho Asphalt locations & subsidiaries. The role will:
- Provide leadership and strategic direction for EHS, as well as support and advise leadership with regard to the EHS implications of business activities
- Formulate a proactive, local EHS strategy that drives the locations to become an environmentally sustainable, healthy and safe operation; be the key point of contact with regulators; lead and develop EHS personnel to be partners with each site.
- Take ownership over and help each site achieve EHS goals.
- Obtain all necessary permits for process changes & new site constructions.
- Assure all regulatory reporting is accurate & timely.
- Leading from the front attitude, willing to do any job that needs to be done to assure success.
- The Environmental Health and Safety Director will:
- Ensure that the all facilities meet or exceed all applicable governmental EHS standards & any additional requirements set forth by leadership.
- Develop, implement, & maintain environmental practices, projects and programs at our plants. Responsibilities included: meeting environmental permit requirements, which include storm water, wastewater, air emissions, solids waste, noise, etc.
- Assist in formulating compliance programs in response to federal, state or company environmental, safety/industrial hygiene regulations and policies.
- Implement, improve, & support the IAS operating management system and EH&S Policy.
- Provide environmental, safety and health analysis of new processes, procedures, equipment, engineering guidelines and standards review, contractor safety, and all major engineering activities/projects. Coordinate and/or participate in process hazard analysis utilizing suitable methods such a HAZOP, What If, or other systems safety techniques.
- Responsible for physical security programs and implement adequate controls to protect Company property & assets from negligence, theft, vandalism, arson, terrorism, and sabotage.
- Drive safety cultural change focused on a proactive, process improvement approach.
- Drive a strong EHS message through outstanding performance, investigation, follow-up and continuous improvement process and the initiation of action plans.
- Develop and mentor staff and provide strong developmental support
- Monitor accident and illness investigations and recommend remedial action for all serious accidents or illnesses.
- Prepare and distribute pertinent safety communications including statistics, newsletters and special alerts.
- Participate in safety and fire protection audits of site and other Divisional Plants as requested.
- Serve as liaison with Company property insurance inspectors, regulatory agencies, and fire department.
- Ensure that personnel are given instructions on how to work safely and maintain a healthful environment.
- Interact with Supply chain group and vendors to ensure all safety supplies and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required is available and maintained in order to meet employee safety requirements.
- Establish, build consensus, and communicate standards and guidelines to the personnel.
- Develop and mentor staff and provide strong developmental support.
- Coordinate with the trucking safety director to ensure truck driver safety within our manufacturing facilities.
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in an Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Engineering, Engineering, Occupational Safety, or related field. An advanced degree and/or recognized EHS certification or documented training (e.g. PE, CIH, CSP, etc.) is a plus.
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive responsibility in environmental, safety, production and/or related career. Strong preference to experience within a chemical manufacturing/processing environment, with heavy focus on permitting & regulatory reporting.
- 5+ years of training and management experience (plant environmental management or department management) in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the chemical industry.
- Familiarity with industry standards such as OSHA, NFPA, ANSI, ACGIH, and AIHA is required.
- Professional industrial/distribution experience with Title V, NPDES, & storm water management is a plus.
