Position Description
Mechanical Plumbing Designer you will integrate the process of document production with a more detailed understanding of systems and system components. This position can expect exposure to plumbing design along with calculations, specifications, and an expanded understanding of codes with a continuum advanced practice of three‑dimensional Revit system design and production of piping systems. This role will have the ability to take small to medium sized projects from conception to final design with little input from a senior engineer.
- An in‑office position in Billings, MT – must be located in Billings or willing to relocate.
$70,000 to $85,000 annually.
Required Qualifications- A Bachelor’s degree or higher education in Mechanical Engineering or related field plus 5+ years of job‑related experience.
- Intermediate knowledge of Autodesk MEP Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office, and Outlook.
- Ability to design plumbing systems for small to medium sized projects under minimal guidance from a professional engineer from start to finish.
- Working knowledge of HVAC systems such as VAV, VRF, and package rooftop systems.
- Working knowledge of hydronic pipe sizing, pump selection, duct sizing, and fan selection.
- Working knowledge of hydronic heating system design and chilled water‑cooling system design.
- Working knowledge of digital temperature control systems.
- Proficiency using a heating and cooling load software such as Trane Trace.
- Excellent working knowledge of plumbing systems such as domestic hot & cold‑water systems, natural gas, and waste and vent systems.
- Working knowledge of pipe sizing and layout of plumbing systems.
- Ability to collaborate and efficiently work on a team to produce high‑quality construction documents.
- Basic knowledge of plumbing and mechanical building codes.
- High level of quality control and ability to correct design issues.
- Client‑direct communication.
- Consult with the client to determine functional requirements of new or renovated systems and/or projects and prepare information regarding design, specifications, estimated costs, and construction time.
- Collaborate with other disciplines to produce preliminary concepts and drawings, including developing electrical coordination lists for mechanical equipment.
- Review shop drawings for mechanical equipment during the construction administration process.
- Perform necessary research for design of complete systems.
- Conduct site surveys for existing HVAC and plumbing systems to input into drawings.
- Conduct site inspections and prepare field reports to verify that installations meet design document requirements.
- Integrate engineering elements into design for client review and approval.
- Prepare scale drawings and contract documents for contractors.
- Complete cost estimates.
- Select equipment and prepare specifications.
- Provide basic research to codes and/or jurisdictional requirements.
- Perform engineering studies and prepare reports.
- Complete all necessary engineering functions to produce quality construction documents.
- Site travel and team meetings.
