Tetra Tech is seeking an experienced Geotechnical Engineer for offices in Montana, Colorado, and Arizona, who will work on a range of client projects across the Rocky Mountain region and nationwide, including infrastructure, renewable energy, commercial development, environmental sites, mining, and oil & gas. The role involves deep foundation, slope and retaining wall design, geohazard studies, soil and rock analysis, waste containment, HDD design, bridge, highway, and pavement design, monitoring, load testing, and construction oversight.
Responsibilities- Coordinate and oversee geotechnical drilling and design projects at the project level.
- Perform field reconnaissance and assist with geophysical investigations.
- Coordinate materials testing for geotechnical projects.
- Conduct analyses including slope stability, settlement, seepage, foundation, and road section design.
- Prepare geotechnical reports and review coworkers’ reports.
- Develop proposals and cost estimates for new work.
- Provide oversight on construction projects.
- Engage professionally with clients via meetings, calls, and email.
- Adhere to company health and safety standards.
- Market new and existing clients and secure new work opportunities.
- Mentor and supervise less experienced team members as appropriate.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- B.S. in Geotechnical Engineering, Geologic Engineering, or related field required.
- 3–8 years of experience in geotechnical engineering with project management capability.
- PE license required or ability to obtain within 6 months; reciprocity in MT, CO, or AZ desirable.
- Experience preparing engineering plans and specification packages for public and private projects.
- Proficiency in complex geotechnical design analysis and current design software.
- Familiarity with lab testing and construction materials testing.
- Excellent written and oral communication; client‑oriented.
- Strong independent work, budgeting, and computer/technical skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel).
- Ability to travel for field work (≤25% of time).
- Valid driver’s license with clean record.
- Pre‑employment drug screening required by state regulations.
- HAZWOPER and MSHA certification.
- Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling equipment up to 50 lb on variable terrain and weather.
- Travel and field oversight (≤25% of time).
- Extended field work on uneven ground, steep slopes, up to 10–14 day stints in extreme temperatures and noise.
- Standard office duties: sitting or standing at a desk with computer use.
- Full‑time Monday‑through‑Friday (40 hrs); occasional extended hours as needed.
- Target salary: $80,000 – $90,000, based on experience, location, and qualifications.
