Project Surveyor—Billings or Bozeman, MT

IMEG is hiring a Project Surveyor to provide production surveying support by applying diversified knowledge of land surveying principles and practices. In this role, you’ll support survey calculations and apply surveying judgement based on documented practices and examples, with work reviewed by a Senior Survey Coordinator or Senior Land Surveyor.

• Perform complex survey duties for construction stakeout, boundary, topographic, and as‑built surveys
• Research historic maps, land records, previous surveys, and land title reports
• Complete boundary reductions and mapping/topographic field reductions using CAD/survey software
• Download, maintain, and verify accuracy of project survey data; manage the survey database
• Review survey production and final products, processed data collection, and field notes for quality control
• Prepare survey computations, staking/control exhibits, and survey crew instructions for construction staking and field survey projects
• Operate and assist with GPS equipment, total stations, levels, data collectors, and other survey equipment
• Lead CAD Techs in preparing plans and plats describing in detail the surveys performed
• Maintain professional and productive working relationships with clients and coworkers
• Mentor and assist in training junior staff members
• Operate a company vehicle and observe safety and security procedures

• Bachelor of Science or Associate's Degree in Civil Engineering, or equivalent
• Minimum 6 years experience in the Surveying and Construction Industry
• Land Surveyor (LS) license or equivalent
• Advanced knowledge of land surveying operations, computations, principles, and practices
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering plans and construction documents
• Knowledge and ability to deal with public and governmental agencies, manage field crews, and schedule equipment and supplies
• Proficient in on-site office operation, office workflow processes, and problem-solving techniques
• Advanced understanding of office workflow processes and problem-solving techniques
• Advanced understanding of survey operations and identification of potential problems
• Proficient with AutoCAD C3D, survey, GPS, MS Office software
• Problem-solving techniques
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Ability to effectively communicate with clients, officials, contractors, coworkers and represent IMEG professionally
• Valid driver's license with ability to be insured by IMEG carrier; must consent to a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) background check
• Proficient in Microsoft and MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, Outlook
• Ability to travel with occasional overnight stays
